Introduction
It
is no big secret about the mess this world as wrapped itself in. Crime
and violence seems to plague this entire planet we live on. From corrupt
politicians making sweet heart deals, Mafia and gangsters running huge
corporations backed by guns and drugs, psychopath who terrorize innocent
people going about their business, right down to the simple pick pocket.
One thing all these scoundrels have in common is that they are doing
something illegal. They are acting against the laws of the land. But the
law can also be a very tricky and dirty little thing if you know how to
play the game and play the game right. But who knows more about the law
than the law makers, interpreters and enforcers. Police officers are
paid to enforce the law. It is their duty to do so. They ensure that the
law is upheld and that while executing their duties, have no bias as it
relates to upholding that law. Upholding the law by police officers
entails venturing into un-chartered waters to snuff out sophisticated
criminals, many times police officers may have to go undercover to catch
some people who have no regard whatsoever for the law, and those who
believe that they are above the law and believe that they are protected
by their money and certain corporations.
Police Officers Going Undercover
In
order for you to catch many of these sophisticated criminals, you have
to use disguise. The disguise used by many police officers who work
under cover is simply not being a police officer. It may sound like a
simple feat but it is certainly not. Lets look at the police officer in
whole before he is placed to do undercover work.
Before you become a officer of the law, you are first a citizen, a human being filled with imperfections. You are briefed on your training and given certain rules to abide by while training to become a officer. You are trained to be honest and disciplined and also to be impartial in carrying out your duties as an officer. Your mantle is to serve and to protect. The citizen has completed training and is sworn in as a police officer and is assigned at a precinct. After a year or so you are given the assignment to act as a undercover drug dealer in order to catch a certain drug kingpin. What this assignment does to the office is try and mess with his/her psyche. The cop will now have to ditch the true blue and become drug dirty. He/she will now have to take on a new persona, a new belief, a different style of life. He will not have the same friends he had when he was a cop. Now his new your friends are murderous drug dealers and crack heads by the grove.
Many officers will have to go deeper than some when working as undercover agents. They have to develop a trust with the criminal that is even closer than a husband and wife. This type of relationship developed between police officer and criminal may or may not yield good results. What this means is that a undercover officer may bring emotions before duty and this is when things are likely to get real messy.

Changing Character
As
an undercover police officer, you will definitely have to have some
sort of character change. You have to rid yourself of the cop persona
and fit yourself in a brand new skin for crime. It may be scary, fun and
even exiting in the beginning, but if this type of acting continues for
years, the persona taken on by the agent may simply stick with the
officer and eventually over powering those characteristics he had before
going undercover. Yes, it makes his snoop job easier as now it is much
easier for anyone to believe he is whom he says he is, but maybe bad
when or if this cop returns from his fantasy role to live a normal life.
An officer who takes up the character of a drug dealer may not even
know that he as stopped acting that part long ago and the drug dealer
character is blatant and present throughout this officers life. This can
even lead to that same officer acting violent and breaking the law, and
even in some extreme cases begin to really sell drugs. The government
try's to reduce these psychological effects by providing counseling for
under cover agents, before, during and after under cover duty.
Partake In Illegal Activities
Many
times undercover officers have literally committed crimes themselves.
This is because they simply can't afford to blow their cover. Lets look
at an agent who is trying to fit in the extortion racket circles. He is
picked up and joins the gang. The gang goes out to do some serious nut
busting. They extort and beat up innocent citizens who refuse to pay
protection fee. During the melee, they call on their newest gang member
to put in a couple blows as well. What does this under cover police do?
Does he yell police and blows his cover and doesn't complete his
undercover duty of cracking down the entire extortion racket? Or does he
beat up the innocent civilian and move on? Many of the cops in this
line of work may have to turn a blind eye on some atrocities just to
complete their mission. Once these officers turn a blind eye or partake
in these activities, they have broken the law. These type of activities
can also have some very negative lasting effect on the police officer
working undercover.
Becomes Psychologically Imbalanced
We
must remember that most of us that live on planet earth are of human
beings. Police are no different. When an officer goes on undercover
duty, he may witness many atrocities that bares too much for his psych
to handle and may just snap his mind a whole lot or a little. No matter
how large or how minuscule the effect, the point is that that officer's
life will be directly affected somehow. Many officers spend years
undercover and end up leaving the force because of the psychological
negative effects.
Working Undercover Affects The Cops Family
Undercover officers don't just get up and work undercover then go in a bathroom to change and go home to their wives and families. They have to be extremely careful or risk death for themselves and their families. Blowing your cover as an undercover police many times is sure death and disposal. The criminals will want to get rid of you because the cop has probably gained too much insight into their operations and they just can't risk having that type of information in the hands of the law. If a cop cover gets blown, hard criminals will target the family of these cops and force the entire family into protective custody. This is a total shakeup of the families lifestyle. They now live in fear as they do not know if they are ever truly protected and have to be on their P's and Q's at all times.

Undercover police turns To A Life of Crime
Cops
who go undercover to sniff out cartels and mafias sometimes become
addicted to the lifestyle of the money wielding criminals ad end up even
ditching the police force to become part of the mob themselves. Why
carry information to give the government for a measly government check
each month when you can make a thousand times that each a day? The
temptation of working undercover is real and some officers do fall
through the crack of becoming corrupted by the fancy lifestyle these
cartels live. And since you are corrupt, why not have it both ways, work
for the government as well as the mafia. These cops are in the system
and will continue to be in the system no matter how many are caught.
Conclusion
Undercover
Police work is no walk in the park. Some officers do some pretty
serious undercover work and risk their lives each and everyday they
spend acting detached from the force. If their covers should ever get
blow, it may cost them their lives and the lives of their families. It
is not a selfish role to play, as it involves the undercover agent, his
families and even friends, It is a dangerous duty and so we say respect
to the fine officers who work undercover to rid our streets of all
criminal activities.
