Frequently, these are measured by Cost Per Mille (CPM), where mille refers to 1,000 impressions. So let us say that for the month of August you had 20,000 page views for your blog. If you had one decent ad on that page that was paying you a dollar for every view/impression, you would make one dollar x 20, which = $20 buckaroos. Yippee! now you are making money blogging with impressions. So the more impressions you get is the more money you will end up making. It all boils down to how much traffic your blog generates, types of ads being used on your site and of course proper ad placement which will generate much more impressions. 

Remember, ad impressions are not ad clicks. An impression is when an ad is fetched from its source, and is countable. Whether the ad is clicked is not taken into account. Each time an ad is fetched, it is counted as one impression. Fetched means loaded and viewed on your device of choice, whether it be Smartphone, tablet or computer.
